The case against memorization
You don't need to remember a single formula.
The NCEES® Reference Handbook is the only document you're allowed to consult during the FE exam. Every formula, every constant, every table you'll use is in there — by design. The exam tests one thing: whether you can find the right information and apply it under time pressure.
And yet most preparation textbooks were written as if the Handbook didn't exist. They cover material you'll never need to recall and skip the one skill that decides exam day: navigation.
That mismatch is what fails returning engineers, working professionals, and graduates who haven't opened a textbook in years. They study harder than ever, and on exam day they're slow to find what's already in front of them.

The method, defined
Train on the document you'll actually use.
The Handbook-First Method inverts the usual order. Instead of teaching theory first and pointing to the Handbook later as an afterthought, every chapter we write opens with the Handbook itself: which pages matter, which tables you'll consult, which formulas live where.
From that anchor we build outward. Concepts are explained in relation to specific Handbook references. Worked examples cite the page number you'd flip to on exam day. Practice problems return you to the Handbook with every solution.
By the time you sit for the exam, the Handbook is no longer a 500-page document you skim under time pressure.
It's a map you've been navigating for months.
