Editorial Standards Editorial Policy

How   we   make our   books.

Our editorial standards, the role of our Professional Engineer endorsers, and how we handle alignment, corrections, and updates.

Our editorial mission

FP Institute publishes FE exam preparation books designed around one principle: every concept, formula, and practice problem maps to a specific page of the NCEES® FE Reference Handbook — the only resource permitted during the FE exam. We call this the Handbook-First Method.

PE endorsement process

Each book in our trilogy is independently endorsed by a Licensed Professional Engineer with verifiable credentials in the relevant discipline. Endorsers review the book's pedagogy, problem alignment, and Handbook references against the standard a working engineer would expect of a serious FE preparation text.

Endorsers provide their professional opinion under a formal foreword agreement. Their opinion is independent and does not constitute an endorsement by NCEES®, any state licensing board, or any regulatory body.

  • FE Mechanical: James M. Wright, P.E. — Licensed Professional Engineer, State of Texas, License No. 87249.
  • FE Electrical and Computer: Mike A. Herzog, P.E. — Licensed Professional Engineer, State of Nebraska, License No. E-13990.

NCEES® Handbook alignment

All FP Institute publications are written against the NCEES® FE Reference Handbook version in effect at the time of printing. Version 10.5 is currently in effect until 30 June 2026; version 10.6 enters into effect from 1 July 2026. The current FE Mechanical edition (2026/2027) is aligned to v10.5; a v10.6 update is in preparation.

When NCEES® releases a new Handbook version, we revise our books to align references, page numbers, and formula sets. FP Institute does not distribute the NCEES® Handbook. The Handbook is published exclusively by NCEES® and made available to registered candidates through the NCEES® candidate account.

Claims we do not make

  • We do not publish or claim a pass rate for our customers. Outcomes depend on individual study effort and prior preparation.
  • We do not claim that our books are required, recommended, or endorsed by NCEES®.
  • We do not make comparative pass-rate claims against any other publisher.
  • We do not guarantee specific scores or exam outcomes.

Corrections

We take accuracy seriously. If you find an error in any FP Institute publication — a formula, a Handbook page reference, a worked solution — please report it via our contact page. Confirmed errata are corrected in the next revision and acknowledged here.

Conflicts of interest

FP Institute has no commercial relationship with NCEES®, with any state licensing board, or with other FE preparation publishers. Our endorsers are compensated for their foreword work under formal agreement; this compensation does not influence the editorial pedagogy or methodology of the books.
